Launch of the OCMS Research Forum for Faithful Witness

We are delighted to announce the launch of the OCMS Research Forum. Led by Dr Kirk Franklin, the Research Forum aims to catalyse mission research related to changes in the way mission is conceived and practiced globally. One of those changes is captured in the name of the Forum: Faithful Witness. The title reflects the awareness that the label ‘mission’ carries all kinds of baggage generated by the cross-cultural mission movements of the past 250+ years. The heart of participation in God’s mission lies in faithfully bearing witness in community to God and his mighty acts through life, word, deed, and sign.

The Forum will focus on the intersection of three elements in contemporary mission practice: What is happening in cross-cultural mission movements today, the fullness of participation in God’s mission through integral mission and the centrality of local expressions of Christian witness.

A steering group has been formed, made up of mission researchers from Oceania, Asia, Africa, Latin America, North America and Europe. These senior research associates of OCMS are beginning the process of identifying priority research needs. It is anticipated that the Forum will draw in a wider group of researchers over time. The Forum will host periodic consultations, open to any interested in the subjects being explored. If you are interested in participating in the research work of the Forum, please contact Dr Franklin at kfranklin@ocms.ac.uk .
