SOCIAL JUSTICE: Practices and Perspectives

Call for Papers

First Middlesex School of Law and Oxford Centre for Mission Studies Joint Symposium

7 November, 2018

11:00 am – 4:00 pm

Oxford Centre for Mission Studies

The School of Law of Middlesex University and the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies (OCMS) have been partners since 2014. OCMS is an independent research institute which runs a doctoral program addressing a wide range of issues in faith, mission and development studies in a global context. Questions around social transformation and social justice are central to the identity of OCMS. The same can be said for much of the research, practical interventions and scholarship that are carried out in the School of Law of Middlesex University, not least in its doctoral program across Law and the Social Sciences.

This one-day symposium creates an opportunity for research students and staff at both institutions, and other Middlesex partner colleges in theology and religious studies, to learn about each other’s work and ideas and to discuss theoretical, political, practical and future-oriented dimensions of social justice as a value, a call for action and a topic of research and reflection.

We aim for a day of intensive and informal discussion, organised around brief presentations of current research and scholarship.

We invite staff and students at both institutions to submit an abstract (max 400 words) for a talk of 20 minutes (followed by discussion). Send your abstract to Damon So (dso@ocms.ac.uk). Deadline: 14 October 2018.

For further information, please contact Johan Siebers (j.siebers@mdx.ac.uk) or Heather Payne (heathermayapayne@gmail.com). To book lunch for the day, please contact heathermayapayne@gmail.com before 5 November.

We look forward to welcoming you for a day of joint learning and knowledge sharing!
