Usha Runs on Community Spirit

On Saturday 28 October, Usha ran 13.1 miles, a half marathon to Eynsham and back, in a solo sponsored run to raise money for the newly created Student Peer Support Fund at the OCMS. As Usha says, “It’s something to help students to enjoy their times of residency here in Oxford.” The goal was to raise £1310 (£100 per mile). Usha has written a great blog about her experience of the OCMS community through this fund-raising effort. The idea of the fund was hers and the major effort was made by her, too, a wonderful contribution to the OCMS community itself.

It was a very cold morning with Arctic air (really!) and I had to encourage one brother, Bill, in his running shorts to turn back to the OCMS starting point as I approached on my cycle. I literally got cold feet pedalling! The welcome committee of three more OCMS runners at Wolvercote was great and Usha was urged along, “You’ve got this!” She awarded medals of leaves and daisies to the whole party at the end. But she has given the whole community much more with her outgoing community spirit!

See her student blog post about her run.
