Montagu Barker Lectures
The Montagu Barker Lecture Series was established in 2008 in honour of ‘Monty’ Barker, who served on the Council of Trustees of OCMS for many years and often spoke at the Centre. Monty was perceptive and penetrating, both in conversation and pastoral counselling, with the (sometimes) disconcerting tendency to raise one eyebrow in questioning mode. He became advisor, counsellor, mentor and friend to countless people, much of his time invested in students and youth.
Monty Barker died on 1st July 2015 at the age of 81 after a short illness. He has left a great influence on a generation of medical students and psychiatric trainees and an immeasurable impact on the lives of Christians in the UK, France and India.
As you know, as a result of the current pandemic OCMS is now presenting lectures virtually, which has opened many new opportunities for our Montagu Barker Lecture Series. Now we are able to host lecturers from around the globe. Further, the lectures may be downloaded via an OCMS App that can be put on people’s phones or watched on YouTube for the convenience of our students and friends in different time-zones. You can listen to past lectures here. We will continue to expand our virtual capacity in the coming year.
